Pinq Couture has been a name for whatever I artistically create, especially sewn work, since 2005. I was attending the Art Institute of Seattle for Fashion Design and needed an identity. Pinq Couture was created to head this burgeoning fashion identity. I have spent a lot of time segwaying from one idea and pursuit to another under the name Pinq Couture to really discover who I am as an artist and how I want to represent myself and my work.
I dropped out of Fashion Design for financial reasons and spent a lot of time in very customer service oriented retail establishments. This was a very influential time for me to pick up on customer relations and services. It really helped me establish the bar I want to make and keep for my Customers and their care. I drive to carry this ambition to my business and always keep an open door to my customers with timely and transparent communication with my Clients.
During this retail binge, while I was making money to financially support my lifestyle, the retail work life did not support my artistic lifestyle at all. I felt oppressed and exhausted. The artist that I have been since I can remember (winning a small accolade at an arts fair for a drawing in 1st grade) was quashed and dying. I took a few breaks here and there and started incorporating all my talents self taught and learned. I've run the gamut of selling original artwork to costume work and selling my own designs here through Etsy.
I was off and on between still working retail to pay bills and art supply funding or sometimes taking a year off to really try at my endeavors. I tried very hard to stay "unemployed" to ground me in my work but I always favored paying for other things (I have a sad addiction to Disneyland.) J
ust before my wedding in 2011 I decided to take up dance as I had a missed opportunity in High School. I had always wanted to back to ballet dancing but some how never thought I was able to go back, not to mention I had certain person in my life who didn't seem to encourage or support it. So I left it stale until my independence and looming nuptials. That summer before my wedding, I took my first ballet class in 17 years. It was the best. thing. ever. I only held a retail job now to support my dancing addiction. I had gone from one class a week to two, and the following year I upped it to five including teacher assisting with my Mentor. It has been a marvelous and challenging journey. I am so thankful and so blessed to have friends and family who are supporting my dream of dance even for my age.
As of November 2014 I had ankle surgery to remove a congenital defect in my ankle called Os Trigonum. It inhibited my ability to dance pain free. Currently I'm recovering and spending a lot of brain power conspiring how to grow my merchandise and my business to cater to like minded dancers. All the while helping me support my passion to teach classical ballet to anyone of any age interested.
